Training & Workshops

The club offers structured training sessions to members from both complete novices to the more experienced turner.   These are usually held in the Spring and Autumn and consist of a morning session every week for eight weeks.  There are also opportunities to attend national training workshops organised by the AWGB.

Workshops

The club owns three lathes and has access to a fully equipped workshop and turning equipment including gouges and specialist chisels, sharpening systems and safety equipment such as face shields, dust extractors and eye protection.

Turning Safely

Woodturning can be hazardous – the wood can be spinning at over 2000rpm. So it is essential to take steps to minimise the risk of anything going wrong and to protect yourself should the worst happen.  This is best done by attending training sessions where the risks will be highlighted by experienced tutors.

Our guest demonstrators regularly give tips and advice on how to turn safely and help can also be found on the AWGB website where there are a number of useful safety related documents.
